🔄 Peer Learning

Students learning from and with each other.

Peer Learning

Peer learning happens when students learn from each other. It can be formal, like a structured study group, or informal, like two classmates explaining a concept on the bus. The teacher steps back. Students take on the role of explainer, questioner, and listener.

The approach has strong support. Explaining something to someone else forces you to organize your own understanding. It exposes gaps. It builds confidence. Students often feel more comfortable asking a peer a "stupid" question than asking a teacher.

Peer learning works best with structure. Unstructured group work can drift. Clear roles, a shared goal, and some accountability help. Teachers monitor and intervene when groups go off track. When it works, students learn the material and something about working with others.
