🚜 Harvest

The process of gathering mature crops from the fields.

Harvest

Harvest is the payoff. Everything a farmer does between sowing and reaping comes down to the days when the crop finally comes off the field.

Timing is delicate. Cut wheat too early and the grain is green and light. Wait too long and a storm can flatten it or shatter the heads. Fruit has an even narrower window; a day of heat can turn a perfect peach into a soft one. Growers walk fields with moisture meters, refractometers, and sometimes just their teeth, testing grain hardness or sugar content.

How it happens

After the field, the work continues. Grain is dried and stored. Fruit is cooled. A bad post-harvest step can ruin what a good harvest delivered.
