An ad is a paid message. Someone bought space or time to put it in front of you, and that transaction is what separates advertising from a friend's recommendation or a news article. The format changes constantly. A thirty-second TV spot, a sponsored post, a bus shelter poster, a search result at the top of the page.
What stays the same is the intent. An ad tries to move someone toward a belief or an action. Sometimes the goal is immediate, like a discount code that expires tonight. Sometimes it is slow, like a car brand building a feeling over years.
Most ads carry three parts: a message, a medium, and an audience. Get any of them wrong and the money evaporates. A brilliant message shown to the wrong people does nothing. A dull message shown to the right people might still work if the offer is strong enough.
