😊 Positive Psychology

The study of strengths and factors that enable thriving.

Positive Psychology

Psychology has long focused on repairing damage. Positive psychology deliberately studies the conditions and processes that enable individuals, communities, and institutions to flourish.

Topics include positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment—sometimes summarized as PERMA. Character strengths, resilience, gratitude, and post-traumatic growth receive empirical attention. The field does not deny suffering; it insists that a complete science of human functioning must also explain what goes well.

Interventions such as gratitude exercises, strength identification, and savoring practices have been tested for their effects on well-being. Critics caution against simplistic happiness prescriptions and cultural bias in defining the good life. Positive psychology has broadened the research agenda and supplied practical tools for education, coaching, and organizational development.
