⬆️ Upgrade

Moving a guest to a better room or service.

Upgrade

A guest reserved a standard room and is moved at check-in into a larger suite for the same rate. That improvement is an upgrade. It may be offered as a courtesy, a loyalty benefit, or a paid option.

Airlines upgrade seats; hotels upgrade rooms; car-rental companies upgrade vehicle categories. Operational upgrades help manage inventory when lower categories oversell or when higher categories would otherwise sit empty. Elite status in loyalty programs increases the chance of complimentary upgrades.

Travelers sometimes request upgrades at check-in or purchase them during booking. Expectations should remain modest; upgrades are never guaranteed unless paid and confirmed. When they occur, they create a disproportionate sense of satisfaction relative to their cost to the provider.

An unexpected upgrade can color the memory of an entire stay.
