🕳️ Marketing Funnel

The journey a customer takes from awareness to purchase.

Marketing Funnel

Customers move through stages from first awareness to final purchase and beyond. The marketing funnel is a model of that journey. At the wide top are people who become aware of a brand; fewer move to consideration; fewer still convert to purchase; a still smaller group becomes loyal advocates. Different marketing activities are suited to different stages.

The funnel metaphor is imperfect—paths are rarely linear and customers can enter or exit at various points—yet it remains useful for planning and measurement. Awareness tactics differ from conversion tactics; retention and advocacy require still other approaches. Mapping content, channels, and metrics to stages helps allocate effort where it is most needed.

Modern versions of the funnel often extend beyond the purchase to include loyalty and referral. Some frameworks replace the funnel with a more circular or flywheel model. Regardless of the image, the underlying insight remains: not every prospect is at the same stage, and marketing that ignores stage differences wastes resources.
