🧹 Housekeeping

The department maintaining cleanliness in a hotel.

Housekeeping

Every day a team enters vacated rooms, changes linens, cleans bathrooms, restocks supplies, and prepares the space for the next guest. That work is housekeeping. It is essential to both hygiene and the perceived quality of a stay.

Housekeeping schedules must align with check-out and check-in times so rooms turn over efficiently. Standards cover bed-making, surface cleaning, trash removal, and inspection. Lost-and-found procedures and attention to maintenance issues also fall within the department's scope. Staffing levels directly affect consistency.

Guests notice housekeeping most when it fails—when a room is not ready or something is left unclean. When it succeeds, the work becomes almost invisible. In larger hotels the department is one of the largest employers and a major part of operating cost.

A perfectly prepared room is the quiet achievement of the housekeeping team.
