🗺️ Strategic Planning

Defining an organization's direction and long-term goals.

Strategic Planning

Drift is the default. Strategic planning is the process by which an organization defines its long-term direction, sets goals, and determines the major initiatives and resource allocations needed to pursue them.

It typically includes environmental analysis, assessment of internal capabilities, choice of strategic options, and translation into actionable plans and metrics. Good strategic planning creates focus; ritualistic planning produces binders that gather dust. The quality of debate and the courage of choices matter more than the elegance of the slides.

Plans must be revisited as reality diverges from assumptions. Organizations that separate strategy from annual budgeting often find strategy remains abstract. Linking strategic priorities to resource decisions and leadership attention makes planning consequential.
