💬 Mediation

A process where a neutral party helps disputants reach agreement.

Mediation

A neutral helper can unlock stuck negotiations. Mediation is a voluntary or court-connected process in which a neutral mediator assists disputing parties in reaching their own agreement.

Unlike arbitrators, mediators do not impose decisions. They facilitate communication, identify interests, and explore settlement options. Sessions are typically confidential, encouraging candid discussion. Any agreement is recorded in a contract or stipulated order that becomes enforceable.

Mediation is widely used in family, commercial, employment, and small-claims disputes. It saves time and cost compared with full litigation and allows creative solutions courts might not order. Success depends on party willingness and mediator skill; failed mediations still often narrow the issues for trial.
