💨 Sprint

A short-distance race run at top speed.

Sprint

Work is organized into short, fixed-length cycles. A sprint is one of those cycles in the Scrum framework, typically lasting one to four weeks. At the beginning the team selects items from the product backlog and commits to completing them. At the end the team demonstrates a potentially releasable increment and reflects on how to improve.

The fixed timebox creates a regular cadence of planning, delivery, and feedback. Scope may be adjusted if necessary, but the end date does not move. This discipline prevents work from expanding indefinitely and forces prioritization. Daily coordination keeps the team aligned during the sprint.

Sprints give stakeholders frequent opportunities to see progress and to redirect. They give the team a sustainable pace and a clear definition of “done” for each cycle. When the practice is followed consistently, predictability and quality tend to improve. The sprint is the basic heartbeat of Scrum-based development.
