🎯 Differentiated Instruction

Tailoring teaching to meet the diverse needs of students.

Differentiated Instruction

Differentiated instruction means teaching the same content in different ways to different students. No two students learn at the same pace or in the same style. A teacher who differentiates adjusts content, process, or product to meet learners where they are. It is not about giving easy work to some and hard work to others. It is about giving each student the right challenge.

In practice, differentiation looks like flexible grouping. Students might work in small groups on similar skills at different levels. It looks like choice boards, where students pick tasks that interest them. It looks like tiered assignments, where the core learning goal is the same but the complexity varies.

It is demanding. A teacher with thirty students cannot fully customize every lesson. Critics say it is unrealistic without more support. Supporters say even small adjustments help. The key is knowing your students and being willing to adapt on the fly.
