📋 Product Owner

The person responsible for defining and prioritizing the backlog.

Product Owner

In agile development someone must decide what the team should build next. The product owner is that person. The role is responsible for maximizing the value of the product by managing the product backlog, setting priorities, clarifying requirements, and accepting or rejecting completed work. The product owner represents the voice of the customer and the business to the development team.

Effective product owners maintain a clear vision, make timely decisions, and remain available to the team. They balance competing stakeholder interests and are accountable for the success of the product in the market. The role is not the same as a traditional project manager; the focus is on value and outcomes rather than on task tracking.

When the product owner role is weak or ambiguous, teams struggle with changing priorities and unclear acceptance criteria. When it is strong, the team can focus on delivery with confidence that the work is aligned with real needs. The product owner is therefore a critical link between strategy and execution in agile environments.
