🛬 Airport

A facility where aircraft take off and land.

Airport

Aircraft arrive and depart from a complex of runways, terminals, and support buildings designed to process people and cargo safely. That facility is an airport. It is both a transportation hub and a small city of its own.

Passengers move through check-in, security, immigration, and boarding. Baggage systems, air-traffic control, and ground handling keep operations moving. Major airports serve as transfer points that connect dozens of cities; smaller ones may handle only regional flights. Retail, dining, and lounges generate significant non-aeronautical revenue.

Capacity constraints, weather, and security requirements create daily operational challenges. Expansion projects are expensive and politically sensitive because of noise and land use. For travelers the airport experience often sets the tone for the entire trip.

A well-run airport makes complex logistics feel almost routine.
