🤝 Personal Selling

Face-to-face selling where a salesperson uses skills to persuade a customer to purchase.

Personal Selling

Some purchases require conversation. Personal selling is the face-to-face (or screen-to-screen) interaction in which a salesperson presents a product or service and persuades a prospect to buy. It is especially important for complex, high-value, or customized offerings where questions must be answered and relationships built.

Effective personal selling involves prospecting, preparing, approaching, presenting, handling objections, closing, and following up. Listening is as important as talking. The salesperson adapts the message to the individual buyer’s needs and concerns. Trust and credibility often determine success more than any single sales technique.

Although digital channels have reduced the need for personal selling in some categories, it remains essential in business-to-business markets, luxury goods, and many professional services. The cost per contact is high, so personal selling is usually reserved for situations where the potential value justifies the investment. When done well it creates lasting customer relationships that automated channels cannot match.
