📢 Campaign

Organized efforts to win an election.

Campaign

Winning elective office usually requires an organized campaign. A campaign is the coordinated effort to persuade voters, raise money, mobilize supporters, and define the choice before election day.

Modern campaigns employ professional staff, pollsters, media consultants, and data analysts. They produce advertisements, stage rallies, conduct door-to-door canvassing, and target messages to specific demographic groups. Finance laws regulate contributions and spending, though enforcement and loopholes vary widely across jurisdictions.

Campaigns also shape the public agenda by highlighting certain issues and framing opponents in particular ways. Negative advertising is common because it often moves numbers. After the votes are counted, successful campaign organizations sometimes transition into governing teams; unsuccessful ones disperse. The intensity and cost of campaigns have risen sharply in many democracies over recent decades.
