⛷️ Skiing

Moving over snow on skis.

Skiing

An athlete slides down a snow-covered slope on a pair of long, narrow runners, using gravity and edge control to manage speed and direction. That activity is skiing. Competitive forms include alpine racing, Nordic disciplines, freestyle, and ski jumping.

Alpine events such as downhill and slalom test different blends of speed and technical turning. Cross-country skiing demands sustained endurance and efficient technique. Freestyle and park skiing reward aerial skill and creativity. Equipment—skis, bindings, boots, poles—is matched to the discipline and conditions.

Snow quality, visibility, and course preparation strongly influence performance and safety. Training includes on-snow repetition and dry-land conditioning. The mountain environment adds objective risk that participants and organizers manage through course design and regulations.

A clean, fast run from top to bottom remains the essential skiing experience.

First time on skis I spent more time on the ground than upright. Second time was better. Third time I was hooked.

Skiing is expensive but there's nothing like the feeling of gliding down a mountain. Worth every penny.
