🍽️ Eating Disorder

A serious condition involving abnormal eating habits.

Eating Disorder

Eating becomes organized around rigid rules, intense fear of weight gain, or cycles of bingeing and compensation. Eating disorders are serious conditions in which attitudes toward food, body, and weight disrupt health and daily life.

Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder are the most widely recognized forms. They involve biological vulnerability, personality factors such as perfectionism, cultural pressures around thinness, and often a history of dieting or trauma. Medical complications can be life-threatening.

Treatment typically combines nutritional rehabilitation, psychotherapy that addresses body image and control, and family involvement when appropriate. Early intervention improves outcomes. Recovery is possible, yet the process is often long and requires sustained support. The disorders are not lifestyle choices; they are illnesses that hijack ordinary concerns about health and appearance.

Restoring a flexible, adequate relationship with food is the practical center of recovery.
