↩️ Reverse Logistics

Managing the flow of returned or recycled goods.

Reverse Logistics

Product flow is not only outbound. Reverse logistics manages the movement of goods from their typical final destination back upstream for return, repair, reuse, recycling, or proper disposal.

It includes consumer returns, warranty repairs, packaging take-back, and end-of-life recovery. Networks and processes differ from forward logistics because volumes are less predictable and product condition varies widely. Specialized facilities often handle inspection and disposition.

Well-designed reverse logistics recovers value and meets regulatory obligations. Poorly designed flows create cost sinks and environmental risk. As circular-economy pressure grows, reverse logistics capability becomes a competitive and compliance necessity.

E-commerce made this a much bigger issue than it used to be.

Returns are expensive. Designing the reverse flow well can save serious money and reduce waste.

Recycling and refurbishing both fall under this. The systems are more complex than forward shipping.
