🛡️ Apologetics

The reasoned defense of the Christian faith.

Apologetics

Apologetics is the reasoned defense of the Christian faith. It comes from the Greek apologia, meaning a defense. It is not an apology. It is an argument. It answers objections. It provides evidence. It makes the case for Christianity. It addresses skeptics. It strengthens believers. It is a discipline. It is a ministry.

Apologetics has a long history. Paul reasoned with the Greeks in Athens. Justin Martyr wrote defenses of Christianity in the second century. Augustine wrote The City of God. Thomas Aquinas wrote the Summa Theologica. C.S. Lewis wrote Mere Christianity. Modern apologists include William Lane Craig, Ravi Zacharias, and N.T. Wright. They address questions about God, suffering, science, and other religions.

Types of apologetics

Apologetics is not about winning arguments. It is about winning people. The goal is not to humiliate the skeptic. The goal is to remove obstacles. The goal is to point to Christ. The apologist must be humble. They must be gentle. They must be respectful. 1 Peter 3:15 says: always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you, yet do it with gentleness and respect. That is the model. The apologist is a servant. They serve the truth. They serve the seeker. They serve the church. Apologetics is not optional. It is essential. The faith is reasonable. It can be defended. It should be defended. With courage. With kindness. With love.
