⏳ Chronic Disease

A condition lasting a long time or recurring frequently.

Chronic Disease

Some conditions do not resolve; they must be managed for years. A chronic disease is a health condition that persists for a long time, often defined as three months or more, or that recurs frequently over a lifetime.

Examples include diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis, and many heart conditions. Management focuses on controlling symptoms, slowing progression, preventing complications, and preserving function. Lifestyle measures, long-term medication, monitoring, and patient education form the core of care.

Chronic diseases account for a large share of healthcare use and disability. Multidisciplinary teams and self-management support improve outcomes. Acute exacerbations still occur and require prompt treatment, but the overall strategy is continuous rather than curative.
