🏥 Neurological Disorder

A condition affecting the brain or nervous system.

Neurological Disorder

Any condition that primarily affects the brain, spinal cord, or peripheral nerves is classified as a neurological disorder. The category is broad, encompassing acute events such as stroke, progressive diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, developmental conditions such as epilepsy and cerebral palsy, and injuries such as traumatic brain injury.

Symptoms depend on the location and nature of the pathology and can include weakness, sensory loss, seizures, cognitive decline, pain, and disorders of movement or autonomic function. Diagnosis combines clinical examination with imaging, electrophysiology, laboratory tests, and sometimes genetic analysis.

Treatment may be symptomatic, disease-modifying, surgical, or rehabilitative. Because the nervous system has limited capacity for self-repair, many neurological disorders produce lasting disability. Research into mechanisms, biomarkers, and novel therapies is intense, driven by the high personal and societal burden of these conditions.

Early recognition and accurate localization remain the foundation of effective neurological care.
