🌬️ Breath play

Consensual restriction or control of breathing for erotic intensity.

Breath play

Breath play covers erotic scenes that involve controlling or limiting someone’s breathing. The intensity some people chase sits next to a medical fact that does not move: oxygen loss and neck compression can kill quickly, including in experienced pairs, including when everyone meant to be careful.

There is no reliable safe technique to teach in a general reference. Unconsciousness is not a goal. Hands or gear on the neck can damage arteries and the airway without leaving much warning. Solo breath restriction has no spotter at all.

Many educators and clinicians tell people to skip this category and find intensity another way. That advice is not prudish. It is a body-count lesson. If the idea is still on the table in a private relationship, it belongs in a conversation with a knowledgeable clinician and in communities that treat risk with grim honesty, not in a how-to list.

Arousal is a poor judge of oxygen. Attraction to the idea does not make the physiology negotiable.
