🤖 AFK Farm

Slang for gaining rewards while away from keyboard.

AFK Farm

In some games, you can earn rewards without playing. Set up a character to自动 attack, leave the computer running, go to sleep. Wake up to gold and experience. That is an AFK farm. The practice is controversial. Developers often patch it out. It gives players an unfair advantage without effort. But for some, it is a way to progress through repetitive content while doing something else.

AFK farms exploit game mechanics. A common setup uses a safe spot where enemies spawn endlessly but cannot reach the player. A pet or turret does the killing. The player is technically present, so anti-cheat systems may not flag it. Some games, like RuneScape, have a long history of AFK training. Others ban it outright.

Risks of AFK farming

AFK farming is a symptom of game design. If rewards feel like a grind, players will find a way to automate. The best games make active play more rewarding than standing still. The worst ones turn into screensavers.
