✍️ Endorsement

A written amendment that changes the terms of a policy.

Endorsement

The printed policy form rarely fits every situation exactly. An endorsement is a written amendment attached to the policy that adds, removes, or modifies coverage, conditions, or other terms. It becomes part of the contract and controls over conflicting language in the base form.

Endorsements may be standard industry forms or manuscript provisions drafted for a specific insured. They can raise limits, add insured locations, exclude certain perils, or alter notice requirements. Each endorsement should be listed on the declarations page so that the complete contract is clear.

Because endorsements change the bargain, both parties must agree to them, usually before or at inception or at a mid-term change. Failure to attach an intended endorsement is a common source of coverage disputes. Careful review of all endorsements is essential when analyzing any policy.

The article is clear. A written amendment that changes the terms of a policy. Simple but important in insurance.
