🧬 Biology

The scientific study of living organisms and their interactions.

Biology

Biology is the study of living things. It asks how organisms grow, reproduce, respond to their environment, and evolve. It spans from molecules to ecosystems, from the chemistry of a single enzyme to the dynamics of a rainforest. It is a field defined by its subject, not its method. Biologists use chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computation to answer their questions.

The field has many branches. Cell biology studies the basic unit of life. Genetics studies inheritance. Ecology studies interactions between organisms and their environment. Evolution studies how species change over time. Physiology studies how bodies work. Microbiology studies organisms too small to see. Each branch has its own questions, tools, and journals.

Biology is not a finished science. The more we learn, the more we realize how much we do not know. How does a single cell develop into a complex organism? How do thousands of genes interact to produce a trait? How do ecosystems respond to disturbance? These questions are still open. The tools to answer them are getting better.

Biology matters because we are biological. Understanding how our bodies work, how diseases arise, and how ecosystems function is essential to medicine, agriculture, and conservation. It is also a source of wonder. Life is strange, varied, and resilient. Biology is how we make sense of it.
