🤾 Throwing

Slang for losing intentionally.

Throwing

Throwing is the continuous form of the same idea: actively causing a loss. When someone is throwing, they are in the process of giving the match away. The word often appears in real-time complaints. “They’re throwing” is a call for the rest of the team to notice the pattern.

The behavior can range from obvious sabotage to subtler forms of disengagement. Feeding kills, ignoring objectives, or making choices that only benefit the enemy all count. In ranked environments the accusation is serious because it affects everyone else’s progress.

Some players throw as a form of protest after a bad start or a disagreement with strategy. Others do it for amusement or because they have already decided the game is lost. From the receiving end the distinction rarely matters. The result is still a compromised match.

Game companies treat intentional throwing as a form of toxic behavior and may issue penalties. Proving intent is harder than observing the effect, which is why the word remains a frequent and contested part of competitive vocabulary.
