🛋️ Interior Design

The planning and furnishing of interior spaces for functional and aesthetic ends.

Interior Design

Interior design is the planning and furnishing of interior spaces. It goes beyond decoration. Interior designers consider how people use a space, how they move through it, how it feels, and how it performs. They select materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, and color.

The field overlaps with architecture, but the focus is different. Architects design the building. Interior designers design what goes inside it. On many projects, they work together from the start, especially on commercial interiors where space planning and code compliance are critical.

Interior designers must know building codes, accessibility standards, and fire safety. They specify materials that meet flame spread and smoke development requirements. They plan egress and clearances. They also manage budgets and schedules, often coordinating with contractors and vendors.

Good interior design is not about trends. It is about solving problems: making a small apartment feel spacious, a busy office feel calm, a restaurant feel inviting. The best interiors feel inevitable, as if they could not have been any other way.
