🎯 Tactic

A specific action or maneuver used during play.

Tactic

During a match a team repeatedly exploits a mismatch on one side of the field with a specific combination of passes and runs. That deliberate pattern is a tactic. Tactics are the concrete actions used to implement broader strategy.

Tactics may be rehearsed set pieces, pressing triggers, isolation plays, or defensive traps. They are adjusted in real time as the opponent reacts. Clear communication and shared understanding allow a tactic to function under pressure. Over-reliance on a single tactic makes a team predictable.

Coaches prepare a range of tactical options and teach players when to apply each one. The ability to execute simple tactics at high speed often outweighs the possession of complex but poorly rehearsed schemes. Tactics turn individual skills into coordinated advantage.

A good tactic looks obvious after it has worked and invisible while it is being set up.
