🏂 Snowboarding

Descending snow on a single board.

Snowboarding

A rider stands sideways on a single board and descends a snow slope, performing turns or aerial tricks. That sport is snowboarding. It developed from a mix of surfing, skateboarding, and skiing influences.

Competitive snowboarding includes halfpipe, slopestyle, big air, snowboard cross, and alpine racing formats. Freestyle disciplines are judged on amplitude, difficulty, and execution of tricks. Board design, binding angles, and stance width are highly individual. Soft boots dominate freestyle; harder setups appear in alpine racing.

Riding requires balance, rotational control, and the ability to read terrain. Progressive learning of jumps and rails takes place in parks with varying feature sizes. Snowboard culture retains a strong creative and expressive element alongside formal competition.
