💧 Watering

Supplying plants with water to support growth and health.

Watering

Plants lose water through their leaves and must replace it through their roots. Watering is the practice of supplying that moisture when rainfall is insufficient. The goal is to wet the root zone thoroughly without creating waterlogged conditions that exclude air.

Deep, infrequent watering encourages roots to grow downward. Light daily sprinkling keeps moisture near the surface and promotes shallow rooting. Early morning is generally the best time; evening watering can leave foliage damp overnight and increase disease risk.

Soil type, weather, plant size, and growth stage all influence how often and how much water is needed. Containers dry out faster than open ground. Checking soil moisture with a finger or probe prevents both drought stress and overwatering. Consistent attention to watering keeps plants productive and resilient.
