🤰 Conception

The fertilization of an egg by sperm, beginning a pregnancy.

Conception

Conception is the joining of egg and sperm that starts a pregnancy. Ovulation releases an egg. Sperm that are already waiting in the reproductive tract, or that arrive within a short window, can fertilize it. The fertilized egg then has to implant in the uterus for a pregnancy to continue.

The fertile window is brief and sits before most people would call themselves late. Apps guess. Temperature and ovulation tests guess better for some cycles. None of them beat the physics of sperm meeting egg.

Not every fertilization becomes a baby. Early loss is common and often invisible. People trying to conceive can turn sex into a chore on the marked calendar days. That chore mood is understandable and still worth interrupting with touch that is not only instrumental.

If conception is the goal for months without a result, a clinician can look at both partners. Timing advice alone has a ceiling.
