Asexuality describes little or no sexual attraction to other people. It is an orientation, not a dry spell and not a moral stance. Some asexual people date. Some enjoy romance, cuddling, or even sex for a partner’s sake. Some want none of that. The shared piece is the missing or rare pull of sexual attraction.
Graysexual and demisexual labels sit near this territory for people who feel attraction seldom or only after a bond forms. Asexual communities have spent years pushing back on the idea that they are broken machines in need of a hormone panel. Medical causes of low desire exist and deserve care. They are not the same thing as a stable asexual identity.
Partners need plain language. Assuming that love will turn into lust on a schedule creates harm. So does treating asexuality as a hurdle to be coached away. Compatibility is the question, not conversion.
Pride flags and group names help people find each other. The private version is simpler: you can build a life that does not run on sexual spark.
