Homosexuality is sexual or romantic attraction primarily to people of the same sex or gender. Gay and lesbian are the everyday words for many. The pattern has existed across cultures and centuries; the legal and medical stories around it have not been kind.

It is not caused by a single parenting style, and it is not repaired by therapy that tries to pry it off. Those projects have a record of harm. What people can change is whether they live openly, and that choice is about safety and circumstance, not about the attraction itself.

Same-sex couples still negotiate chores, money, in-laws, and desire discrepancy. The orientation does not grant relationship skills as a gift basket. It does mean the couple may have to explain themselves in rooms that never ask heterosexual pairs to do the same.

If a friend comes out, you do not need a speech. You need to keep being their friend.
