商業街通常由全國連鎖店和獨立零售商組成。人流、公共交通便利以及附近的辦公大樓或住宅區都為這些商戶提供了支援。近幾十年來，許多商業街面臨來自郊區零售園區和網路購物的壓力。為了保持商業街的活力，地方政府和零售商嘗試舉辦活動、改善公共空間以及開發混合用途項目。

商業街的風貌依然塑造著一座城鎮的形象。空置的店鋪和日益減少的人流量預示著困境；而繁榮的獨立商店和整潔的店面則象徵著繁榮。對許多社區而言，商業街仍然是衡量經濟和社會福祉最直觀的指標。

週六上午熙熙攘攘的商業街依然是城鎮的中心。

    High streets in the UK have been declining for years. Online shopping and out of town retail parks have really taken their toll.

    Description is blank and the category says robotics. High street is really a retail concept not a robotics one.

    I moved from the UK to the US and it took me a while to stop saying high street and start saying main street.

    Empty description again. High street refers to the main shopping street in a town. Not sure why it's under robotics.

    There's something nice about a proper high street with independent shops. Our town is trying to bring that back.
