🙏 Faith

Confident belief in something without proof.

Faith

Faith is trust and confidence in God and His promises. It is not blind. It is not a leap in the dark. It is based on evidence. It is based on testimony. It is based on experience. It is the assurance of things hoped for. It is the conviction of things not seen. Faith is the foundation of the Christian life. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Without faith, we cannot be saved. Without faith, we cannot live.

Faith has three components. Knowledge. Assent. Trust. Knowledge is knowing the facts. Assent is agreeing that they are true. Trust is relying on them. The demons have knowledge. They have assent. They do not have trust. They believe and shudder. Saving faith includes trust. It includes surrender. It includes love. It is not just intellectual. It is relational. It is personal. It is a gift. It is also a choice. It is given by God. It is exercised by us. It is a mystery. It is a miracle. It is the gift of God.

Faith in scripture

Faith is not the opposite of reason. It is the complement. It goes beyond reason. It trusts where reason cannot see. It hopes where reason cannot prove. It acts where reason cannot guarantee. Faith is the hand that receives the gift. Faith is the eye that sees the invisible. Faith is the ear that hears the word. Faith is the heart that loves the unseen. Faith is the life that follows the unknown. Faith is the journey. Faith is the adventure. Faith is the rest. Faith is the peace. Faith is the joy. Faith is the foundation. Faith is the hope. Faith is the love. Faith is the gift. Faith is the call. Faith is the response. Faith is the life. Faith is the way. Faith is the truth. Faith is the life. Faith is faith.

The line between faith and trust in evidence is something I keep turning over.

Confident belief without proof is a clean definition. How people live that out varies enormously.

Personal experience with this is hard to put into words that satisfy skeptics, and that's okay.
