🍄 Fungicide

A chemical used to control fungal diseases on plants.

Fungicide

Fungal diseases can blacken leaves, rot fruit, and kill seedlings almost overnight. A fungicide is a substance applied to plants to prevent or stop those infections. Products range from copper- and sulfur-based compounds used for centuries to modern systemic chemicals that move inside plant tissues.

Prevention works better than cure. Apply protectant fungicides before disease appears, especially during cool, wet weather that favors fungal growth. Systemic types can stop an infection already underway, yet resistance can develop if the same product is used repeatedly.

Always follow label rates and safety intervals. Many organic options exist for gardeners who prefer to avoid synthetic chemistry. Cultural practices—good air circulation, proper spacing, and resistant varieties—reduce the need for any fungicide.
