Resolution (English Literature)

Resolution is the conclusion of a story's plot, in which the central conflict is resolved and loose ends are tied up. It follows the climax and falling action and often brings the narrative to a stable, if not always happy, ending.

Also called the dénouement, the resolution may confirm a theme, reveal a final truth, or leave the reader with a sense of closure or ambiguity. In some modern works, the resolution is deliberately open-ended.
