A safeword is an agreed word or signal that stops or pauses a scene at once. People pick words that would not otherwise come up, or they use a simple traffic-light system: green keep going, yellow ease off, red stop. When speech is hard, a dropped item or a tap pattern does the same job.
The word is useless if someone treats it as a bluff. Stopping is part of dominance, submission, and ordinary sex. You can restart later if everyone still wants that. You cannot undo a moment that went past a red.
Pick the word while clothed. Practice once so it does not feel mythical. If you play in loud rooms, agree on a gesture that can be seen.
After a red, aftercare first, debrief second. Critique of the scene can wait until water has been drunk.
