Body-safe silicone

Platinum-cure silicone is the default recommendation for insertable toys that will be used often. It is non-porous when properly made, so bacteria have fewer places to hide. It does not leach the oily plasticizers that cheap jelly toys sweat onto a shelf.

Not every toy labeled silicone meets that bar. Blends exist. A sticky surface after washing, a strong chemical smell, or a price that undercuts every reputable shop are warning signs. A simple at-home check some people use is the pinch test: quality silicone springs back and does not stay tacky.

Silicone toys want water-based lubricant. Silicone lube can cloud or swell the surface on some formulas. Heat sterilization is possible for many solid pieces: a rolling boil for a few minutes, then air-dry. Toys with motors do not go in the pot. Those get a wipe-down and a trip through whatever the manual allows.
