App-controlled toys put the pattern library on a phone. A motor still does the physical work, but speed, pulse shape, and sometimes heat live behind sliders and saved presets. Some apps add partner modes so another person can drive the toy from another room or another city.
Bluetooth range is short. Wi-Fi or a maker cloud account is what enables long-distance control. That convenience comes with an account, firmware updates, and the usual privacy questions. Read the permissions list before granting microphone or contact access that a vibrator has no reason to need.
Battery drain is higher than on a simple one-button bullet because the radio stays awake. Keep the toy charged if a planned session depends on the app. If the phone dies mid-scene, a physical button on the toy should still offer a basic on-off escape.
Setup habits
- Update firmware on Wi-Fi at home, not in a rush before sex.
- Use a dedicated login rather than a shared family Apple or Google ID when possible.
- Test latency with your partner before relying on it for a timed scene.
- Have a local manual mode in case the app crashes.
