Hope is confident expectation of future good grounded in God's promises. It is not wishful thinking. It is not optimism. It is not a positive attitude. It is certainty. It is assurance. It is conviction. It is based on the character of God. It is based on the word of God. It is based on the work of Christ. It is based on the power of the Spirit. It is the anchor of the soul. It is the helmet of salvation. It is the joy of the Lord. It is the peace of God. It is the love of Christ. It is the gift of grace. It is the promise of glory. It is the hope of heaven. It is hope.

Hope is essential to the Christian life. Without hope, we despair. Without hope, we give up. Without hope, we lose heart. Without hope, we cannot endure. Without hope, we cannot love. Without hope, we cannot serve. Without hope, we cannot rejoice. Without hope, we cannot live. Hope is the fuel of faith. Hope is the engine of love. Hope is the motivation of service. Hope is the comfort of suffering. Hope is the light in the darkness. Hope is the strength in weakness. Hope is the peace in turmoil. Hope is the joy in sorrow. Hope is the life in death. Hope is hope.

Hope in scripture

• Romans 15:13: the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing.
• Hebrews 6:19: a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.
• 1 Peter 1:3: a living hope through the resurrection.
• Romans 5:5: hope does not put us to shame.
• Lamentations 3:24: the Lord is my portion, therefore I will hope in him.

Hope is not passive. It is active. It waits. It watches. It prays. It serves. It loves. It endures. It rejoices. It suffers. It perseveres. It overcomes. It triumphs. Hope is the certainty of things unseen. Hope is the evidence of things not yet. Hope is the substance of things promised. Hope is the future in the present. Hope is the heaven in the heart. Hope is the Christ in you. Hope is the glory to be revealed. Hope is the redemption of the body. Hope is the new creation. Hope is the resurrection. Hope is the life everlasting. Hope is the face of God. Hope is the presence of Christ. Hope is the communion of the Spirit. Hope is the love of the Father. Hope is hope. And hope does not disappoint. Because God's love has been poured into our hearts. Through the Holy Spirit. Who has been given to us. That is the hope. That is the promise. That is the joy. That is the peace. That is the life. That is hope.
