Pansexuality is attraction that does not use sex or gender as the gate. People of different genders can all register as possible. The word grew in popularity as language for gender diversity got more public. Some treat it as distinct from bisexuality. Others treat the two as overlapping umbrellas and pick the one that fits their mouth.

It does not mean attraction to everyone you meet. That is just being alive in a city. Standards, type, and mood still apply. What drops away is the rule that a potential partner must sit in a particular gender column.

Partners may need you to say what the word means in your mouth, because online arguments have made it noisier than the lived pattern. Lived pattern first. Argument second, if at all.

If you date a pansexual person, you are not a category trophy. You are a specific human they chose.
