A flared base is the nonnegotiable safety feature of an anal plug. The portion that stays outside is wider than the internal bulb so the toy cannot be pulled upward by muscle and disappear. T-bar bases, round discs, and anchor shapes all count if the geometry is honest.
A base that is only slightly wider than the neck is a hazard, especially on small plugs that look cute and innocent. Sitting, clenching, and gravity all test that flare. If you cannot hook two fingers under the base when the plug is seated, it is too shy.
Comfort on the outside matters for wearables. A T-bar can feel less bulky in a chair than a big round jewel disc. Edges should be rounded. A square plate will announce itself through trousers for all the wrong reasons.
Inspection
- Compare base width to the widest internal point before you buy.
- No retrieval ring is a substitute for a true flare on a plug.
- Flexible silicone bases should still be wide, not just long.
- Retire plugs whose base has torn away from the neck.
