News needs images as well as words. A press photographer is a professional who covers news events, producing photographs for newspapers, wire services, magazines, or digital outlets under journalistic standards.

The work demands technical skill, rapid judgment about what is newsworthy, and the ability to operate in chaotic or restricted environments. Press photographers often work on tight deadlines, transmitting images from the field within minutes of an event. Ethics rules prohibit staging and deceptive editing.

Many press photographers are staffers; others work as freelancers or stringers. Their pictures can define how an event is remembered. Credit lines and accurate captions remain part of the professional package that accompanies each image into publication.
