🌴 Tropical Climate

A climate with high temperatures and significant rainfall year-round.

Tropical Climate

Heat and moisture dominate the year. A tropical climate is characterized by consistently high temperatures and significant rainfall, with no true winter. Monthly average temperatures remain above 18 °C throughout the year in the classic Köppen definition.

Tropical climates include rainforest, monsoon, and savanna subtypes distinguished by the amount and seasonal distribution of rain. The Intertropical Convergence Zone drives much of the rainfall pattern as it migrates north and south with the seasons.

These climates support lush vegetation and high biodiversity where moisture is abundant. They also present challenges of heat stress, intense storms, and rapid nutrient leaching from soils. A large share of the world’s population lives in tropical climate zones, and agricultural calendars are closely tied to the timing of rains.
