A teacher instructs students in a subject or skill. The job looks simple from the outside: stand at the front, explain, assign work. It is not. A teacher reads the room, adjusts explanations, manages behavior, and responds to a dozen needs at once. Good teaching is exhausting and largely invisible.
Teachers work in many settings. Public schools, private schools, community colleges, training centers, and online platforms all employ them. Pay and status vary widely. In some countries, teaching is a respected profession with strong unions. In others, it is underpaid and undervalued.
Most teachers enter the field to help students learn. Many leave within five years. Workload, bureaucracy, and lack of support drive them out. Retention is a bigger problem than recruitment in many systems. The teachers who stay often cite relationships with students as the reason.
