Sexual dysfunction

Sexual dysfunction is a persistent problem with desire, arousal, orgasm, or pain that causes distress. The label is broad on purpose. Erectile trouble, vaginal pain, low desire, and missing orgasms all fit when they last and when they bother someone.

Bodies and relationships both generate these problems. A full look includes medications, hormones, pelvic-floor tone, trauma, and the way a couple fights. Treating only one layer leaves the others to undo the work.

Distress is required for the term to be useful. A person who is content with a quiet sexual life does not need a diagnosis to satisfy a partner’s spreadsheet.

Start with a clinician who will say the words out loud without flinching. Referral to sex therapy can sit beside a prescription.
