Hypersexuality is a pattern of sexual urges or behavior that feels out of control and causes damage: lost work, broken agreements, risky situations the person does not actually want. High desire alone does not qualify. Many people like a lot of sex and keep their lives intact.
Mania, some medications, substance use, and trauma histories can drive the pattern. So can a habit loop that starts as coping and turns into a treadmill. Labels like sex addiction are debated in clinics. The practical question is whether the person wants help changing the costs.
Partners live with broken promises and health scares. Treatment can include therapy that targets compulsion, medication for an underlying condition, and concrete barriers that are less glamorous than a confession. Shame as the only tool tends to feed the cycle.
Seek care if the behavior is escalating past your own values. Curiosity on the internet is not the same as a plan.
