Dating is the social tryout for romance or sex or both. Coffee, a walk, a second drink if the first hour did not feel like jury duty. Apps sped up the matching and did not solve the part where two nervous mammals sit across a table.
Intentions help. Some people date to find a co-parent. Some date to find a Thursday night. Saying that early saves weeks of decoding. Safety still belongs in the plan: public first meetings, a friend who knows the location, your own ride home.
Chemistry can lie. Kindness over a two-hour dinner is better data than a perfect photo. Canceling sex you do not want after a paid meal is allowed. The meal was not a contract.
If every date feels like an interview, take a month off. The apps will still be there.
