Silicone dildos are the default good citizen of the toy drawer. Platinum-cure silicone is non-porous, springy, and stable. It takes color well, holds a sculpt, and survives a boil if there is no motor inside.
Firmness varies by pour. Shore ratings in artisan shops tell you whether the shaft will flop or stand. A soft toy feels kind at the entrance and may buckle before it puts pressure where you wanted. A firm toy is the opposite trade.
Silicone lube can damage silicone toys. Water-based is the boring, correct partner. Store pieces so they do not rest against other silicone for months; some bond. Wash, dry, done. If the surface turns matte and sticky after contact with a mystery cleaner, that toy has retired.
Material sense
- A faint factory smell that fades is common; a sharp chemical smell that stays is not.
- Bubbles in the pour can hide pinholes.
- Matte finishes grip a bit more than glossy.
- Repair is not really a thing; replacement is.
